On the hunt for Fish & Chips

Long awaited yummy fish and chips

So this afternoon, knowing we were leaving work early I suggested to Fred that we jump into the camper and go take a drive to Southerness and get Fish & Chips for dinner whilst watching the sea. Great idea!

But of course we can't possibly go a direct route, it's always waaaay more fun to take the scenic route. So off we set straight after work. We took the B725 which took us past Caerlaverock Castle, read our blog post it's definately worth a visit!, this road is part of the Burns Heritage Trail, a lovely scenic route and definately worth travelling along.

We were just remarking how lucky we seem to be on the weather on our trips out, we had an absolutely gorgeous sunny evening, blue skies and clear views, when suddenly and rather unexpectedly we drove through an incredibly pretty village called "New Abbey" - one to definately go back to & explore on foot - but not today - today we were on the hunt for fish & chips!! When suddenly we rounded the corner and oh WOW!!

Sweetheart Abbey, this beautiful ruin was just too pretty to leave for another day, so a hasty left turn into the carpark and out we jumped to explore - read our blog post on our time here - it is a must see for sure!

With the setting sun and dusk fast approaching we made our retreat back onto the road, our stomach's were rather grumbling too by now and we continued our quest.

Southerness is not somewhere I'd probably visit again except for fish & chips - they were

definately worth the travel - but the village itself had nothing to inspire us to linger any longer and there was no car park to park up in to watch the sea or go exploring the lighthouse. So we grabbed our food and retreated back the way we came, stopping in the car park of what looked like a fairly recently built golf club, to eat our long awaited dinner and admire the views of the distant shoreline and impending storm that was approaching over the distant hills.

Food happily devoured, we continued our circular journey back to the campsite, of course we couldn't just go straight home, that would be no fun so we took a slightly longer route, unfortunately the failing light prevented us from really appreciating this detour, so we will have to return another day!

But what a fantastic evening out.

Thanks for reading
